Steel is like stone: it’s extracted from stone, but it’s a bit easier to bend.

The customer thought it’d be best for me to do the handrail, since they’re my steps. We built the dry stone wall and steps last year. This is the 3rd handrail I’ve ended up doing in the past 3 years. I enjoy it, will do more.

Customer told me they are very happy with the wall we built last year and the hand rail we built this week, and it’s great working with me. Furthermore I’m welcome to have prospective clients visit, to see my work in person.

Wait, is it steel or is it wrought iron? Modern “wrought iron” is actually steel and it is cast–not “wrought”, as wrought means hammered and bent to shape. Ornamental steel is commonly called wrought iron, out of habit or tradition. But mind you steel is a type of iron and this top rail has been heated and bent to shape and same with the spiral piece at the bottom end.

(disclaimer–I should have been wearing glasses while using the grinder/sander. This was a couple years ago, it won’t happen again)

This building had 3 sets of steps so when one of them needed to be replaced I suggested going with a ramp instead, allowing wheelchair access.
