I’ll just call it the Slate Tear, even if the shape sorta got away from me. But someone suggested Mr Wiggles, and I like that name too.
Stacked Slate Sculpture

Black slate from nearby Slatington PA with bits of New York red slate

I use this boulder as a pedestal for creating experimental pieces. Built free form with no guide. It’s not perfect, doesn’t have to be. Will be replaced when the time comes. Last one stood here for half a year, maybe less.
This one was a bit experimental as per normal, for me and my cairn sculptures. Still, this one was faster and looser, more free form than Lithadelic Sphere the 8th, which I made at the same time. this one involved a few experimental aspects:
  • Dots are here arranged in a bubbly manner, going from big to small and back to big again
  • Tear drop–but much more curvy than the Lithadelic Water Drop I mad last year.
  • no form or guide used, totally free form, guided by feel
  • Like with my recent sphere, this one has more than one face: a bubbly side with dots, and a side with small bits of red highlights

Embrace Imperfection

Although I try to dial in my details, I’m still down with wabi-Sabi. That’s embracing imperfection and the ephemeral.

Here’s another one I made, at the same location:

Dry Stone Sculpture/Slate Sculpture

No mortar or adhesive used in the one–although I may use mortar, sometimes for commissioned pieces.

“Nothing’s cool until it’s cool so be honest with yourself
Every little imperfection it makes it what it is

There ain’t no wrong way to rock and roll
You rip those crystal licks straight through my soul”

slate sculpture detail with dots

Bits of red on the one side, as if there’s some blood in the tear. Intense–or melodramatic. Light purple dots on the other side though, like bubbles, suggesting perhaps a tear of laughter.

Such symbolism wasn’t planned, was just experimenting to see how the slate would look with dots, and how the black would look with red.
