stone path through the butterfly garden in Wayne PA

orange quartz highlights in stone path

Orange highlights pop, adding a bit of charm and sparkle to this hillside stone path. The orange (rhymes with storage, sort of!) is from 3 pieces of quartz discovered onsite. I made sure to only use thick quartz for this purpose. Being situated along the edge of the path, and having a small amount of surface area, these orange (rhymes with range, sort of!) pieces of quartz needed to be thicker, in order to guarantee stability underfoot. There be rules we follow, there be rules. Sounds like a bummer, to have to follow rules… But then again, once you grok these rules you can have all sorts of fun! Nature and gravity define these rules.

This hillside stone path also features a set of dry stone steps.

We set these steps using the heavy stone moving techniques, which I described recently.

Three birdbaths are set along this stone path

One of these birdbaths has a unique feature–two legs! I call it, the Trilithon Birdbath. To purchase birdbaths, email me at devin@devineescapes.com

And two stone benches

benches for sale

The benches each have a spiral engraved into them. The benches, being placed among ferns, have this spiral for a couple reasons. You could say it’s one of my symbols, and it is the same spiral found beneath the sphere, in my logo. But also, this spiral is the same form as the ferns, as the awaken and uncoil each spring. Yes, I make and sell and deliver these benches and there are many available for immediate purchase!

I told you this stone path is at a butterfly garden, right?

butterfly garden in wayne pa

Newly hatched monarch butterflies. My customer does that thing where you protect the caterpillars and have them safe during the chrysalis phase, then let them go after they bust out of the cocoon.
After getting out of the cocoon, they are protected within this netting, this little cage thing while they stretch their wings and get ready to fly.
Yes, the one on my neck tickled a bit, climbed up my ear and all that. Sometimes, I like to get tickled by butterflies while I’m building stone walls, what?
Then another day, my customer brought me two more butterflies, that had hatched the day before–and they sat on me for a few minutes and then both hopped off of me, together–for their first flight!
