Orange highlights pop, adding a bit of charm and sparkle to this hillside stone path. The orange (rhymes with storage, sort of!) is from 3 pieces of quartz discovered onsite. I made sure to only use thick quartz for this purpose. Being situated along the edge of the path, and having a small amount of surface area, these orange (rhymes with range, sort of!) pieces of quartz needed to be thicker, in order to guarantee stability underfoot. There be rules we follow, there be rules. Sounds like a bummer, to have to follow rules… But then again, once you grok these rules you can have all sorts of fun! Nature and gravity define these rules.
This hillside stone path also features a set of dry stone steps.
We set these steps using the heavy stone moving techniques, which I described recently.
Three birdbaths are set along this stone path

The benches each have a spiral engraved into them. The benches, being placed among ferns, have this spiral for a couple reasons. You could say it’s one of my symbols, and it is the same spiral found beneath the sphere, in my logo. But also, this spiral is the same form as the ferns, as the awaken and uncoil each spring. Yes, I make and sell and deliver these benches and there are many available for immediate purchase!

Just gave you a call and you told me to post my question here. Iām installing a irregular bluestone floor in my foyer. Iām wondering what the best way to grout the floor would be as the joints are rather large. I know mortar is an option but wondering if there is a better way. Also can you color the mortar (or whatever you recommend) to an off white? Having trouble finding any articles that address this situation.
Mortar is the way to go, for an indoor job. Assuming these indoor flagstone will be set in mortar, correct? If so, joint with mortar.
Being an indoor job, you could joint with a clay/sand mix– a cob mix. Like in cob construction. Clay soil plus sand is a totally viable option. Or lime and sand, or portland cement and sand…or premixed bagged type S.

The places that sell mortar will usually also have concrete due. Buff (yellow), brown, black and red are typically available. I’ve used iron oxide pigments purchased from realmilkpaint.com when more specific color was needed.
Aside from pigments and dyes, the Choice of sand type will also effect color, as will the choice of binder.
