Pavers versus flagstone What type of patio or walkway to build?

Pavers—cheap. Maybe not ugly but….how often does a a person point to an individual paver and say wow, how beautiful this paver is? Huge environmental impact

Concrete—cheaper, even huger ecological impact, likely to crack and with time get even worse

Flagstone—a bit more expensive, beautiful, relatively small environmental impact. Healthier for the world all-around. Essentially eternal and blessed by the angels.

Think about it, a concrete paver—manufactured in a big ugly factory, sold by a self important schmoe with a clipboard, an eager, placating salesman, laid out carelessly in cookie-cutter, one-size-fits all designs.

And Flagstone—manufactured within the alchemical laboratory of nature over millions of years, installed heart-fully by the same guy who sold it to you, skill and integrity prominent all over the entire completed job.

pavers versus flagstone? It’s just like Ikea vs real custom cabinets.

Synthetic faux stone vs real masonry? It’s like mcdonalds vs a nice delmonio steak.

Pavers. Terrible little squares, all lined up in a soul-less, uniform, storm-trooper row. The Borg, you will be assimilated, planet-wide concentration camp–

Shhhh, it’s alright now. Devin is here. Relax, smile, and even rejoice, for the earth is vibrant and alive and wholesome flagstone is here to stay. The birds will sing, flowers will bloom, the honey bees will stay busy all summer long and puppies and kittens, babies and rock and roll and cookies and Heck. Yeah.
